Why do nail techs remove the cuticle during a manicure?

I'd like them left alone and don't understand why it's done. I would ask them but nobody at the nail salon speaks a word of English.Why do nail techs remove the cuticle during a manicure?

it looks better i guess but its not sanitary. the cuticle is supposed to be a barrier between your nail and your finger and if cut germs can get inside much easier. i used to go to Asian salons and I just used to say loudly '; NO CUT!'; and point to my cuticle.





I started going to an Italian salon and its sooo much better lol
im pretty sure they remove it so it gets rid of the dead skin there, and it makes your nails look longer sometimes. but really not sure?!?!?! thats a good ? i want to know the real answer to.. i think ill ask!!! :)

I got an infection on my cuticle; nail seems 2 have separated/cracked where the cuticle was. will it grow back?

i have an issue with bitting and pealing my cuticles and hangnails off. one finally got infected. I went to the doctor and got antibiotics. yeah, it will grow back as long as the matrix (the white moon on your nail bed, it's like the ';root'; of the nail is not damaged. Best bet is to get some superglue, dab a bit on it so it doesn't crack further, and eventually it'll grow out. This isn't dangerous, nail techs do it all the time. I've done it before as well. Just dab glue, let dry, than you can buff it a little to smooth it out. then u can polish it on top and noone would know any difference.

Is it bad to paint all the way to the cuticle when applying nail polish?

I always paint all the way to the cuticle and sometimes over it, but i've noticed that manucurists don't, they start about a milimeter away from the cuticle. Also on the instructions that came with a bottle of opi start to finish base and topcoat it says to start painting 1/32 inch away from the cuticle.

Hi yes it is bad, if you paint all the way to the cuticles you will 'flood' the actual cuticle which can cause damage, it won't seriously harm you if you get nail polish on your cuticles, but its always best to avoid, try painting one stroke down the centre of the nail and then a stroke either side. Yes its bad to paint all the way or over the cuticle because the chemicals can harm your skin. Also it tears your cuticle as your nail grows
yes it is...I recommend tha you go ay least onec to the manicure and see how is the best way and you will learn how far you can paintr in the nail...Yes is bad you need allots practice...
I don't think so as long as you change your polish often and keep your cuticles cut back. mine are always painted I switch colors often to avoid staining and let them go natural for one day once a week.
I was always told the same thing but never told exactly why. I would assume that its so you cuticles are not smothered and can breathe, plus it looks better when you avoid painting over them. I've also noticed that my nail polish is more likely to peel at the base if I accidentally paint over them.
that's just for a neat edge. if you paint over the cuticle as the nail grows away from the cuticle it will pull the polish apart causing peeling. it's like a sealed edge when you skip the cuticle painting.
I wouldn't worry about it, I do it too.


But I wouldn't go over the cuticles.

They usually have Cuticle Oil for your cuticals and nails, but you don't have to put these on everyday as those oils are usually once a week thing. So, one handcream is enough for everyday use.

It sounds like you damaged the nail underneath the skin. I'd think that eventually it would stop doing that--you don't say how long it's been happening.


One thing you can do is take apart a teabag and use some clear nail polish to apply the teabag paper like a bandage across the split. It will look a little lumpy so you'll have to paint your nails to disguise it.


Or you might want to go to a nail salon and see what they suggest.

I can not remember a time where I didn't bite my nails. I've tried many things. I currently get acrylics put on and I still tear away at my cuticles with my teeth, clippers, paperclips, anything I can get my hands on. I also separate the real nail from the fake one and tear away at that too. What are some meathods to stop this disgusting and painful habbit??How to quit Nail and Cuticle biting.?

its just a like a clear polish and it tastes so awful you will put your fingers to your mouth and it will remind you not to bite your nails and eventually you will stop. it took me about 4 months of use and then i just didnt bite my nails anymore.How to quit Nail and Cuticle biting.?
